The YUS Series are superbly crafted instruments with inspiringly rich sound and delicate balance. The simplicity of the cabinet gives superb acoustics to the subtlest note, and specially designed hammers provide rich tone. And the simple, meticulous design rounds out a piano that enhances the performance of professional and home pianists alike.
FEATURES
EXCEPTIONALLY HIGH-QUALITY MATERIALS, METICULOUS VOICING
An upright piano is made up of roughly 8000 parts. Many of those parts are specifically related to sound, and their selection significantly influences the sonic quality of the piano. In crafting the YUS series, we employed the same materials used in our world-famous, flagship Yamaha CFX concert grand piano—particularly in the felt hammers and piano strings—in order to optimize the expressive dynamic range, and pursue a sparkling tone with a sense of color. Moreover, our skilled craftsmen meticulously take the time and effort to perfectly voice each individual piano, breathing life into the sound and imparting a remarkable sonic quality that responds with profound sensitivity to the player.
AMAZINGLY NATURAL AND TRANSPARENT SOUND, LIKE THAT OF A GRAND PIANO
The gorgeous magic of acoustic pianos is that they resonate throughout the entire instrument, and make even the surrounding air and room vibrate to create a rich, luxurious sound. To take maximum advantage of this phenomenon, the YUS series has a special tone escapement system that releases sound from inside the piano, enhancing the sound so that the player can physically feel the lush sound and be inspired by it.
GORGEOUS FINISH, EASE OF USE, AND EXTRAORDINARY ATTENTION TO DETAIL
For added convenience and protection, these models feature a soft-close mechanism that slowly closes the fallboard. In addition, the gently curved design of the side arm was realized by arranging rotating metal fittings in the back of the keyboard lid. The polished ebony finish of the YUS1 and YUS3, as well as the artificial leather bed on the shelf of the music rest which prevents music sheets from slipping, give a sense of serene quality to the overall appearance. These pianos also provide a standard safety lock to protect your treasured instrument.
ELEGANT EXTERIOR WITH EXQUISITE COLOR VARIATIONS
Augmenting the elegant and luxurious polished ebony finish, a satin American walnut finish that brings out the beautiful wood grain as well as a polished mahogany finish are also available. Select the one that best enhances the interior of your room or performance space. * These photos are of the YUS1. There are some natural differences in the wood grain and shades, depending on the region and the individual instrument.
THREE HYBRID PIANO TYPES, INCLUDING SILENT PLAYING AND AUTOMATIC PERFORMANCE
The YUS series lineup also includes advanced hybrid pianos, such as the TransAcoustic™ which lets you control the volume and yet maintain the rich, expressive sound unique to acoustics, and the SILENT Piano™, which lets you plug in a set of headphones and enjoy playing the piano any time you want without disturbing others. It also has a Disklavier™ type which allows you to record and playback piano performances—letting you enjoy listening to concert-like piano content, and giving you even greater musical pleasure and satisfaction.
THE FINEST WOODS
The top ten percent of solid spruce from around the world is hand selected from our Kitami Mill in Hokkaido, Japan for the YUS piano soundboards. The crown is reinforced with full-length, solid spruce ribs for a refined, dynamic tone expected in a grand piano.
SUPERIOR VOICING AND REGULATION
YUS pianos are voiced and regulated by master technicians in Kakegawa, Japan to ensure that everything, from the strike of the hammers to the weight of the keys and depth of the key travel, are reminiscent of the finest grand piano.
HAND-WOUND EUROPEAN BASS STRINGS
Yamaha artisans wind each bass string by hand to the exacting standards and sound profile of every YUS piano at our factory in Kakegawa, Japan.
CONCERT QUALITY HAMMER FELT
We took everything we learned from crafting the hammers of our flagship CFX concert grand and redesigned the hammers of the YUS to bring out powerful, nuanced tones on an upright piano.
ROOM FILLING SOUND
Each YUS piano features a proprietary Yamaha tone escapement system that helps provide the clarity of tone and power that is rarely found in an upright.
BACK POSTS, FORWARD THINKING
Years of cutting-edge research, including our proprietary wood-drying process, result in durable back posts that maintain their shape, strength and resonance for years to come.
ADVANCED V-PRO FRAME
Yamaha was the first company to use an advanced Vacuum Shield Mold casting technology called V-Pro to create a stronger, lighter, more durable frame. Every YUS Series piano features a full-perimeter frame built to our exacting specifications at our Iwata Forge in Japan.
THE WORLD’S FIRST ALUMINIUM ACTION RAIL
Often copied but never equaled, the patented Yamaha aluminum action rail helps assure our piano keyboards are resistant to tiny fluctuations in humidity and temperature over time.

Seasoned for Destination
The tuning stability, finish and overall musical integrity are enhanced over the long life expected of a fine piano.
Spruce Soundboard
At the Yamaha lumber mill and wood processing facility, the finest spruce is quarter sawn; and less than 10% of the total is selected and reserved for Yamaha piano soundboards. Solid spruce, rather than laminated spruce or poplar, is the choice in all fine pianos for the best amplification of sound, best tone and sustain.
Full Length Ribs
Yamaha reinforces the crown in its soundboards by using ribs that continue to the edge of the soundboard, and are glued into the notched liner (or inner rim on the grand piano). Reinforcing the crown ensures that the tone quality will remain for years and years and improves tuning stability.
V-Pro Plate
Yamaha uses V-Pro (Vacuum Shield Mold Process) in casting the iron frame (plate). V-Pro plates are stronger and visually more appealing. Critical dimensions are produced more accurately than before.
Metal Action Rails
Yamaha engineering developed a unique Extruded Aluminum Alloy Action Rail (bearing a Yamaha patent) that is one of the best innovations for improving a piano action in the last 100 years. The usual fluctuations in wood rails that effect touch, caused by periodic weather changes, are eliminated allowing stable, long-lasting action regulation.
Balanced Action
Each key of a Yamaha piano is individually tested and measured for the corrections needed to obtain uniform “down weight” pressure. Yamaha actions play correctly and uniformly. This balancing helps ensure a lifetime of superior touch and control across the keyboard.
Uniform Key Travel
Yamaha designs all grand and vertical pianos to have the same key travel. Regardless of size, type or model of Yamaha piano, the keyboards will always feel the same.
Spruce Keys
Yamaha uses Spruce for the keys on all models of pianos. Spruce is very light and possesses a very high ratio of strength to weight. It is ideal for key construction, even though its cost is greater than either sugar pine or bass wood. Yamaha keyboards respond quickly providing fast repetition for the most intricate piece of music. Yamaha keyboards withstand heavy use over years of fortissimo passages.
