Introduced in 1968, CONTROLLED SOUND heads are single-ply Ambassador-weight heads with a 5 mil thick black or clear dot in the center of the head. This combination offers a controlled, centered sound without undesirable overtones. These dual-zone heads have a combination of medium and heavy-duty drumhead characteristics. The outer area of the head’s playing surface offers a midrange tone and sensitivity while the laminated center dot eliminates high frequency overtones and adds durability and tonal focus to meet the demands of heavier hitters.
When it comes to taming overtones and enhancing attack, Remo’s Controlled Sound (CS) Coated Black Dot drumhead is one of the industry’s most popular harder-hitting snare and tom options. Its single-ply, 10-mil coated Mylar film is reinforced with an underside 5-mil Bottom Black Dot. And together, these layers supply a wide range of tones and tunings. Struck in the center, the Remo CS Coated Black Dot gives you a full attack, increased midrange definition, and dent-resistant stage durability. But move out toward the edge, and the CS Black Dot responds with heightened tone and sensitivity — the better for buzz rolls and softer strikes.
